Greetings

Welcome to the May newsletter from Iron City Physical Therapy.

Happy May!

This month we're excited to participate in the Zoo Run.  Look for us with our Iron City PT shirts on and catch up with us at the end with some healthy snacks and refreshments. The race supports Future Rangers and this is the 4th year that we have  participated in supporting such a great cause that gives back to our community. Let us know if you're participating so we can cheer you on!

Our clinic is decorated in Zoo design and we currently have an animal cross word puzzle to complete for a chance to win a Chick-fil-A gift card.

Around the clinic we are celebrating those small victories along the way toward you meeting your goals for therapy. What did you do today that you couldn't do yesterday or last week? Share your small victory with your therapist.

Finally, some of the featured articles this month includes a piece on gardening, some delicious recipes for summer and  information about plantar fasciitis and over training.

Enjoy!

The risks of overtraining

Spring is a time when many people think of taking physical activity up a notch - whether you are just starting, a weekend warrior or train regularly.

Overtraining syndrome can result when the physical stress placed on an athlete is greater than the body can handle, leading to an array of symptoms and decreased athletic performance.

Physical Therapy can help you avoid overtraining by educating you on the risks and symptoms of overtraining, and by developing a gradual training program for you to follow to avoid injury.

Have you ever heard of Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammatory condition that can cause moderate to severe foot pain that is worse in the morning and when putting weight on the foot. While this condition can take up to a full year to completely resolve, Physical Therapy can help to manage symptoms.

A proper assessment that looks at your lifestyle, posture and walking or running pattern will help to identify common culprits. Our revolutionary wearable sensor technology, manual therapy and modalities, including ice, ultrasound, as well as custom orthotics, are some of the recommendations for plantar fasciitis.
