Greetings

Welcome to the September newsletter from Iron City Physical Therapy.

Join us this month in the awareness of Fall Prevention as we celebrate

Falls Prevention Awareness Day on

Sept. 23rd.

Did you know that 1 in 4 older Americans falls every year? Falls prevention may not seem like an exciting topic, but it is important.

Falls become more likely as we age due to health conditions and physical changes.  Even certain medications you take may make you more susceptible to falls.

Falls are the leading cause of injuries for people aged 65+.  However, the fear of falls does not have to rule your life!

Physical activity has been proven to reduce the risk of falls by improving strength, balance, and coordination.  If you, or someone you know, avoids physical activity due to the fear of falling, you should  talk to a doctor. He or she may refer you to a physical therapist to create a custom exercise program aimed at improving your balance, flexibility, muscle strength and gait.

Check out our Facebook page for more information on Fall prevention this month.
